IoT Data and Security Considerations

by brian in IoT, Security

While IoT technologies are creating new possibilities in every industry, these same enabling technologies also bring with them new security concerns. Anytime we innovate the way we monitor, detect and track people and things, the data from our connected devices and how it’s sent across networks becomes a very sensitive subject. Security needs to be considered and engineered into every layer of an IoT system from the outset of a project so as to keep intruders from compromising your network.

This means it’s important to take certain programming steps and implement certain security procedures like proxies and encryption to keep intruders from accessing devices, your network and your data.

Broadly and at a minimum, you will need to:

  1. Adopt a risk-driven strategy
  2. Track and manage your devices
  3. Consider patching and remediation processes
  4. Perform testing and evaluation
